Five generations have been producing wines on the hills of Langhe since 1859, Giovanni Gaja, a local grape grower, founded the Gaja Winery in Barbaresco. Each generation contributed to state the greatness of Nebbiolo, sacrificing bad vintages by refusing to bottle them, selecting some of the best vineyards, limiting the production of the wine to the only estate vineyards, combining the old traditions of Langhe with bold innovations in the vineyards and the cellar. Today, the Gaja Winery produces wines from its own vineyards, located in the Barbaresco district (Barbaresco and Treiso) and the Barolo district (Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra).
