One of my favorites ever, this cask aged Port is ready to drink. Graham’s 20 Yr was one my top Ports for the Sommelier’s Journal.
For 3 centuries Graham’s has remained a family owned business. Today Graham’s House uses a very revolutionary stainless steel robotic lagares to replicate the action of the human foot. I love to see the guys singing and dancing Fado while they step on grapes in those remote granite lagares of the Alto Douro in Portugal.
The Douro river is 927 km long from the Atlantic Ocean to the north central region of
Spain. It was discovered by the Romans who named it the River of Gold (Douro).
In order to make Port fermentation must stop early with the addition of neutral grape spirit, the result is 20% average alcohol (called Fortified) added with the natural residue of sugar giving Graham’s its unique character and generous style.
The grapes in Port blend; a difficult terroir to grow vines, Due to the sunny, dry and very hot vineyards of the Upper Douro. Each of these 5 grapes has it’s own characteristics and has been part of the territory for many centuries. Yields are very low here – 1/2 kilo per vine!
Touriga Nacional (intense aromas, powerful red grape for structures)
Touriga Barroca (deep intense color, tannic driven, chocolate character)
Touriga Franca (fragrant red grape, red floral aromatics)
Tinta Cao – known for its elegance and silky character and complexity
Tinta Roriz – Vibrant ruby color grape and generous fruitiness
Color: Ruby Red
Taste: Amber Orange Hue, presages a splendid nose of nuts and caramel
Palate: The mid palate is huge, somewhat sweet and warm, very feminine with a great finish, Lots of finesse.
Perfect Pairs: Creme Brulee – Mango Tart – L’lle Flottante – Tart Tatin – or as they do in Portugal, as an aperitif with olives or salted almonds.

SHAW FAMILY REISLING | Finger Lakes, NY
12% Alcohol
Value: $17
About 300 miles Northwest of New York City lays a beautiful wine region, known as the Finger Lakes AVA. This area is populated with 11 parallel North-to-South lakes, which have been sculpted by Ice Glaciers aged by 10,000 years. This region is a very lovely part of the country. The floral landscape and European influenced culture, give it a foreign yet local feel. Today, it is one of the largest American Riesling wine regions and is widely acknowledged for the Riesling Revolution in America.
The AVA is, most importantly, home to the SHAW Family REISLING. The Finger Lake’s cool climate, “Lake Effect” temperature moderation, glacial soils, and sloping topography allows for the world’s finest Riesling-producing areas. There are more than 700 acres of Riesling grapes and roughly 100 wineries producing a total of about 100,000 cases a year. I will admit that my taste is more Alsace than most, but I love QPR in our economy. A quality wine made at 12% alcohol in the state of New York – A must try at least once!!
Color: Golden straw colored wine
Taste: Medium Dry, Complex, Earthy, Stony, Sharp (Ruwer Spatlese-like), Focused Acidity, lemon-like, Ripe Citrus Peel, White Peach Flavor, Elegant
